BOMBA AND PLENA IN THE BIG LEAGUE.   A SPARK IN THE CURRICULUM AND IN THE EDUCATION OF HARTFORD, CT A 90 minute carnival-style workshop introduces students to Puerto Rican culture. Students will explore Puerto Rican traditions like"BOMBA AND PLENA" dance, mask making, costume showcasing, and poetry reciting. The workshop will also introduce students to fun call and response songs. At the conclusion of the workshop students will put what they have learned to the test as they play instruments, and perform the songs, giving them a more personal experience with the Puerto Rican culture. The workshop was held at Hartford Stage Rehearsal Studios on Main St., in Connecticut as an introduction for teachers in the Professional Development Conference-2013. Develan el Monumento La Familia Puertorriqueña

Hartford, Connecticut: ARTE, CULTURA E HISTORIA fue lo que se compartió el dia 23 de septiembre de 2009. Día donde un gran numero representativo de Puertorriqueños de la isla conmemora el Grito de Lares reuniéndose precisamente en el pueblo donde nace la Historia. Para aquellos que no están a tono con lo sucedido, un 23 de septiembre del 1868, un grupo de patriotas puertorriqueños llevó a cabo un levantamiento contra los españoles. Este levantamiento se conoce como el Grito de Lares. En Hartford, CT, sin embargo se hace otra historia. La de-velación del monumento a La Familia Puertorriqueña. El evento comenzó a las 10:00a.m. en el "Learning Corridor", Hartford, CT. Como maestro de ceremonia el Sr. Luis C. Cabán, Director ejecutivo de SINA, Inc. dio la bienvenida a los que allí se congregaron para ver lo que para ellos seria ser parte de la historia, ya que el monumento es único en el mundo. BURUNDANGA: A CARIBBEAN DIASPORA PROJECT-2014

A folkloric and traditional arts project that focuses on the Afro-Puerto Rican music traditions and Carnival of (eighteenth century) with Bomba (Pronounced Bome-Bah) and/or (twentieth century) Plena (Pronounced Play-nah).  Our activities consist of professionally-led workshops or concert for general audiences, youth, youth/student-led Bomba and Plena performances, and multi-disciplinary exhibitions/performances by accomplished musicians, performance artist, visual artist and curators.  The project's name, Caribbean Diaspora, BURUNDANGA-2014, reflects the fact that Caribbean population movements and common historical experiences have resulted in cultural expressions that influence each other while being nationally unique but with regional commonalities.
