BURUNDANGA: A CARIBBEAN DIASPORA PROJECT-2014

A folkloric and traditional arts project that focuses on the Afro-Puerto Rican music traditions and Carnival of (eighteenth century) with Bomba (Pronounced Bome-Bah) and/or (twentieth century) Plena (Pronounced Play-nah).  Our activities consist of professionally-led workshops or concert for general audiences, youth, youth/student-led Bomba and Plena performances, and multi-disciplinary exhibitions/performances by accomplished musicians, performance artist, visual artist and curators. 

The project's name, Caribbean Diaspora, BURUNDANGA-2014, reflects the fact that Caribbean population movements and common historical experiences have resulted in cultural expressions that influence each other while being nationally unique but with regional commonalities.

EXPLORATIONS IN PUERTO RICAN CULTURE 2008-2009

Bomba Dancer Theater Springfield,MA: Explorations makes a special effort to showcase the rich cultural resources on the Puerto Rican community of western Massachusetts. First video: " Lydia Baila Bomba". She is the Dancer Track Leader and in the Repicador drum: Obanilu Allende. He is a Music Track Leader. Both are a vibrant educator in Bomba and Plena. The second video: Magdalena Gomez is the Theater Track Leader, Poets and Drama. We also have Alvilda Victoria Martinez-Ayala in Visual Arts Track and Paddy Bowman in Folk Life Track.
