CARIBBEAN ARTS PROGRAM THROUGH PRIAA
BOMBA AND PLENA IN THE BIG LEAGUE. A SPARK IN THE CURRICULUM AND IN THE EDUCATION OF HARTFORD, CT A 90 minute carnival-style workshop introduces students to Puerto Rican culture. Students will explore Puerto Rican traditions like"BOMBA AND PLENA" dance, mask making, costume showcasing, and poetry reciting. The workshop will also introduce students to fun call and response songs. At the conclusion of the workshop students will put what they have learned to the test as they play instruments, and perform the songs, giving them a more personal experience with the Puerto Rican culture. The workshop was held at Hartford Stage Rehearsal Studios on Main St., in Connecticut as an introduction for teachers in the Professional Development Conference-2013.
